Think Tank

Are you too scared to live?

A cursory glance through just one newspaper this past weekend revealed a frightening world behind and beyond the front door.

There were sexual abuse allegations, diet links to cancer, a spider bite, rising house costs, two murders and a manslaughter, a car crash, a death of a hero, a food recall, a rape and an animal extinction warning. And that was just the first 22 pages.

It is easy to become so afraid of what we eat and do, where we go, where we live, even to sleep in our beds that we find no joy in life at all.

But who's fault is that?

Do we blame the media for publishing so much negativity? Do we blame criminals for misbehaving, or politicians and banks for disrupting our lives? Or are we somehow to blame for allowing ourselves to jump at shadows, so to speak?

Do we stay home in case a terrorist blows up the plane? Do we stuff cash in the mattress because we don't trust the bank?

``In short, no, I'm not too scared to live.
Life's great, and we have so many positives that all those bad news stories are not enough to put me off. Mind you, I have little time for conventional media. There is very little information out there even though we have tons of it (makes sense doesn't it). I take it all with a grain of salt.
It's always been a scary thing, this living business, but that's what it is.''

``Life is a comedy for those who think... and a tragedy for those who
feel.'' Horace Walpole.

``It is a matter of perception, the half empty/full glass. Life can be
wonderful one day and tragic the next depending upon what is happening in
your life. When you have looked death in the face, everyday is a bonus. I am
grateful for every new day and for the blessings of friends and family.''
